“An image is worth a thousand words. Our visualizations are worth a thousand images”

The Previous Logo

Though it is simple and to the point, it didn’t capture the brand and mission statement that Uflo was trying to get across, which was creating efficiency and transparency in the communication between teachers and students in higher education.

Our Task

Can we design a logo that communicates how fluid and easy it is for students to understand class concepts? Can it show how we allow for teachers to answer any student questions seamlessly? Since this technology is focused on visualizations and scrolling to see a concept unfold over time, our main ask was to build a logo that was in line with this mental model of intuitive learning. We had discussions with the startup CEO, Cina and his peer, Karam to get more ideas on the topic.

Here was basic brainstorming and being open to crazy ideas, while keeping mind that we were just thinking of shape structures, colors, and images, rather than full-fledged combinations

Now we began fleshing out ideas, and incorporating semantic labels with our messaging with waves, flowy shapes, and dark colors.

Later Stages- Logo Design

Yet, this was too complex and bulky for a logo design, so we had to strip back the design to the essentials. We received feedback that this logo felt more like a beautiful artpiece, than something representing an educational startup.

Too Much…

So, TJ and I drew inspiration from “wiry” shapes and started to see a different way we could wrap a design across the letters of the company name in an intuitive and easily recognizable way.

Final Design

The final design is a simple and flowing selection of letters with a radial gradient, using a color palette of blue and green with neon flourishes to bring about the bright and educational theme of UFLO.
